Celebrate a joyous evening with gifts, picnics and entertainment

Prepare the children for an enchanting, playful evening full of smiles and lights when Father Christmas himself parks his red sleigh at the beautiful Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM) on SATURDAY, 20 DECEMBER 2025. As always, young and old can depend on him to bring gifts and jokes to this beloved annual event.

Plenty of entertainment, playgrounds and outdoor games await the children as the sun slowly fades away. And just when you think the evening can’t get any better, Father Christmas arrives in all his glory to hand out gifts!

The gates open at 17:00 after which the youngsters can play around in the gardens and get creative with craft activities. At 18:30 there is also a free guided tour for those who want to discover more about the monument’s fascinating symbolism. At 19:30 Santa Claus is expected to make his appearance, so parents are kindly requested to leave their children’s clearly marked gifts in his stocking in the Visitor Centre by 18:30.

Visitors should bring blankets, food and drinks (no glass, please) to enjoy a lovely picnic on the soft lawns. Food stalls will also be available. Just remember your flashlight and a sweater for when the sun goes down.

This cheerful picnic also supports the ATM’s ‘Let’s Read!’ project, which introduces young children to the joy of reading. Picnickers are therefore cordially invited to bring new or second-hand children’s books as gifts.
