Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument

COME CELEBRATE AND EXPLORE ONE OF AFRICA’S YOUNGEST LANGUAGES…

Welcome to the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM) where culture, structure, nature and pleasure reign supreme!

We imagine the fascinating creation history of Afrikaans (from/belonging to Africa) which originated as a language of contact between people on three continents and developed into an advanced means of communication.

The monument, a sculpture laden with symbolism on Paarlberg, attracts tourists and learners in particular, also for the beautiful scenery and varied events.

The charming museum in town, in the restored house where the GRA was founded, features contemporary exhibitions on, among other things, Arabic Afrikaans and the language’s musical adventures.

Diary of events

Our vision is to build on our dynamic and inclusive approach with a view to expanding the linguistic diversity of Afrikaans within a multicultural society.
