Choir voices to fill the Language Monument’s Amphitheatre

Eleven schools raise their voices at festival as part of Vitaal Makietie

The Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM’s) much-loved school choir festival takes place on FRIDAY, 9 OCTOBER 2026, when the Amphitheatre will reverberate with the clear voices of talented choir singers gathering to celebrate their love for music and choral singing. In addition, this festival now forms part of the ATM’s grand Vitaal Makietie on 9 and 10 October, which promises music, sports, food and drink as well as a general celebration of this indigenous language.

The multilingual choir festival offers schools a unique opportunity to share their love of music in a non-competitive atmosphere, to create new connections, and to celebrate the joy of choral singing together with families and supporters.

This year, the participating schools are Klein Nederburg Sekondêre Skoolkoor, Hoërskool Brackenfell Meisieskoor, Laer Meisieskool La Rochelle Juniorkoor, Laer Meisieskool La Rochelle Seniorkoor, Laerskool Totius Seniorkoor, Laerskool Paulus Joubert Seniorkoor, Laerskool Drakenstein Juniorkoor, Laerskool Noord-Eind Seniorkoor, Paarl Meisies Primêre Skool Juniorkoor, Laerskool Paarl Gimnasium Skoolkoor en Lyrikos Gemeenskapskoor.

Gates open at 17:00 and the choir performances begin at 18:00. Food and drink stalls as well as secure parking will be available. Visitors are advised to bring warm clothing.
