The learners of Groenberg Primary – the local school that was ‘adopted’ by the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in honour of Nelson Mandela for a year – were spoilt on 3 December with a visit to the Paarl Mountain. As part of the exciting day, the learners were offered a tour of the monument, after which Santa surprised them and handed out stationery. A picnic lunch and use of the monument’s playground ended the excursion on a highlight. This project forms part of the Language Monument’s outreach programmes to the immediate communities, as formulated in the institution’s vision and mission that can be found on www.taalmonument.co.za.
