Although locked down, the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument’s staff remain open to new knowledge and skills. Two of them, Riana Dempers and Jeffrey Pietersen, have just completed the Halal Tourism Market Readiness programme thanks to Cape Town Tourism and CrescentRating.
This free online training and certification programme consisted of several modules related to this particular tourism market. The topics included how to make your institution more Halal friendly as well as important Arabic concepts and vocabulary to make especially Muslim visitors from Arab countries feel more at home. The use of technology, which can also be used for other cultural groups, was also highlighted.
