Don Vino, Gowar and other stars beckon at Taalmonument

As part of the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument’s (ATM’s) 50th anniversary celebrations, the institution is once again celebrating the rich South African and indeed African jazz tradition during a balmy summer evening with magical music, perfect picnics and incredible views. On SATURDAY, 1 MARCH 2025, visitors will be able to experience the powerful sounds of saxophonist Don Vino (Prins), bassist Chadleigh Gowar as well as singer-pianists Melorie Jane and Amanda Tiffen live as the sun takes a bow behind the monument.

The highly regarded Capetonian Vino has shared stages with local and international stars – not only in South Africa, but also in the USA and UK, among others – while the talented Gowar, Jane and Tiffen have been taking the local jazz scene by storm in recent years. Together, the artists represent decades of experience and their wide variety of musical styles also includes unique Afrikaans songs.

The gates open at 17:00, after which children can frolic in the gardens and playgrounds while guests are encouraged to explore the surroundings, indigenous gardens and the symbol-laden sculpture. At 18:00, the music and socialising will take off in earnest until the final notes fade away at 21:00.

Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics and drinks (no glass) or to order picnics in advance at Suikerkan via 082 216 2510 or info@diesuikerkan.co.za – this bistro will also sell refreshments during the event. Dress warmly and bring a torch; ample parking is available.

Tickets are only R180 per person and available at quicket.co.za or the gate. For information, contact Stefanie Rasztabiga on 021 863 0543 or kommunikasie@taalmuseum.co.za. Follow the artists on their social media and audio channels.
