The Taalmonument was used as a backdrop for the experimental short film PURITY, created by French filmmakers Joaquim Bayle and Nicolas Decatoire. The concept of the performance clip deals with the paradox of human existence’s fear of life and the fear of death, rooted in our perception of time. The dancer Kaylin Coetzee symbolically depicts human being’s desire to live (or not) in a twofolded script that can be seen here. An article on this short film also appeared on Klyntji, which can be read here. ‘Ons Klyntji’ is the first and oldest Afrikaans magazine, founded in the year 1896. It was an anti-apartheid zine in the 1990s. Klyntji.com, descendant of the original magazine, was established in 2014 as an independent publication focusing on diverse and progressive arts and culture.
